Virgo's Lucky Number

The lucky number for Virgo is five (also known as the Pentad). Natives of Virgo share this number with those governed by the Sign of Gemini. Five represents sensuality and symbolizes freedom, variety, adventure and the senses. It is the golden mean, representative of all that is part of human nature (including sex, drugs, alcohol and other forms of indulgence). In geometry, five is the magic pentagram...the universal symbol of man, representing the body with five points (head, two arms and two legs) as well as the five physical senses.

Throughout history, the pentagram has been invoked as a symbol of protection, particularly in Egypt where the five-pointed star enclosed in a circle was the symbol for the Duat. Five is an important number of great significance, being in the center of the Decad. To the Ancients, it symbolized marriage because it was the sum of three (the first male or odd number) and two (the first female or even integer). Thus, it was considered sacred to the Goddess Aphrodite and also had strong associations with Eros. Five signifies the five regular geometric solids, whose faces are equilateral and equitangular: tetrahedron, cube, octahedron (eight faces), dodecahedron (twelve faces) and icosahedron (twenty faces). Five is considered to be the "just middle," since by dividing any combination of numbers which add up to ten, five is always in the middle. Known to be the number of ordered space and time, it contains a powerful invoking formula of spirituality, knowledge, wisdom, freedom and love.

The Ancient Romans would incorporate this number into a talisman in order to ward off the forces of evil. Five is considered an extremely complex number, perceived as both fortunate and unfortunate, expressing an action rather than a state. This number is said to be everywhere, but elusively nowhere. The five-pointed star in a circle (correctly named a "pentacle") is representative of the species of humanity...symbolic of the head, arms and legs of an individual standing "spread-eagled," as represented by the points of a star. A "peverted pentagram," however, depicts the points of the star to represent the horns, whiskers and beard of the mythological goat's head of the Christian Satan. In Eastern traditions, making the sign of five is manifesting life. It possesses a deep connection to Eros, the God of Love. In dreams, an individual often runs into five in connection with the search for genuine involvement in life. Eros and the willingness to form a union are at the heart of this number.

In biblical numerology, five is the Number of Grace and Redemption. Israel came out of Egypt five in rank, David selected five smooth stones with which to fight Goliath and the Holy Anointing Oil was pure, composed of five parts. It is also a symbol of the Universe...its two axes (vertical and horizontal) passing through the same center. It is also representative of the will of God, which can only desire order and perfection.

Five is masculine in nature and, when associated with Virgo, resides in the Sixth House of Service, Work and Health, governing work ethic and the measure of personal integrity. Five is also known as the Quintessence...the mystic fifth element of which the heavens are composed. The Pythagorean theorum states that in a right triangle, five is the square root of the sum of the squares of the two previous numbers, three and four. It is also considered a number of importance in that humankind has five senses, five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot, as well as five wits (common sense, imagination, fantasy, estimation and memory).

In biblical terms, five denotes divine grace or divine proportion, representative of God adding His gifts and blessings to the work of His hands. It is also said that Jesus suffered from five wounds. The colors associated with the number five are mixed and light in hue. Its peak is both night and day, with its natural element being air and its associated gems being diamonds and yellow sapphires.

Virgo's Season

Virgo is a Summer Zodiac Sign (as are the Signs of Cancer and Leo). This time of the year is also known as the Summer Solstice when the days are longer and the nights are shorter than at any other time during the year. In the Northern Hemisphere, Summer usually begins on June 21, while in the Southern Hemisphere, it begins around December 21. However, for the purposes of Astrology, the Northern Hemisphere timeframe marks the beginning of this Season. Spring is the Second Quarter (or Quadrant) of the yearly cycle and is traditionally considered to be a magical time during which the new life initiated in the Springtime grows to maturity.

In terms of the human life cycle, Summer represents the time from the age of twenty-one to the age of forty-two...the dynamic period of development encompassing early adulthood to the mid-life period.

Governed by the faculty of feeling, this period represents a waning which manifests in an objective manner and an unconscious orientation. In short, although objective growth is taking place in an external fashion, such growth has already begun to slow down. However, as in childhood, the internal orientation remains primarily subjective. This is largely due to the fact that Mercury (which rules the Zodiac Sign of Virgo) is classified as an "inner" or "personal" planet, meaning it is close to the Earth. Again, as in childhood, this time of human life is highly personal in outlook, but also comes with much objectivity and acquired wisdom. The maturing adult is able to discriminate between the internal self and the outside world. Not everything is so highly colored by intuitions and powerful unconscious drives as in the earlier years. Although the capacity to absorb and assimilate impressions remains great, many entrances to the personality and ego will have already closed. The maturing adult is also less likely to fall victim to the subjective self and now acts in a more rational and conscious manner.
In general, individuals who fall under the jurisdiction of Summer have more measured responses than those governed by Spring and, though equally as enthusiastic, tend to be more critical. The energies here are perhaps less focused on the initiation of projects and geared more toward bringing those projects to fruition. Summer natives tend to be a mixture of both introvert and extrovert, but feelings do now play an important role in life. Empathatic urges to help and become involved with others are strong and these individuals often experience an emotional interaction not only with people, but also with work and environment. Subjects of Summer may not display an overwhelming desire to present their contributions to the world. Many hidden characteristics develop during this period and being appreciated is not always paramount. Rather than placing personal freedom and independence above all else, Summer individuals are prepared to serve others and willing to invest time in those around them. In short, those governed by Summer need to be needed.

Mythical Tales of Virgo

Virgo represents Mary, Mother of Jesus. The mother of Christ remains a Virgin in the minds of others even when Jesus is born. This does not mean an untouched woman, or intact. In ancient times this meant unmarried lady.

The Greek Goddess Astraea is Goddess of Justice. The Goddess Demeter, an earth Goddess who has a natural affinity with agriculture. The Syrian Goddess Atargatis. Associated with Uranus, and the Moon, the sexy Goddess.

The Goddess Astraea is the Goddess of Justice, and she represents the four seasons and the natural order including birth, change, abundance and death - spring, summer, autumn and winter. She once lived on the Earth in the golden age according to Myth. She mixed with the people teaching of the natural order of the world which was in tune with universal energies. As corruption penetrated the Earth she became disgusted, went back home and became the constellation Virgo.

The Goddess Astraea represents the natural order of everything from vegetation to animals, every thing has a life and unfolds according to its fate, which was totally dependent on the influence of the heavenly bodies.

There is a natural order of the Universe and of the Earth. This is especially important to Virgos - they feel they must behave according to their own inner values. Conflicts arise when external factors come along, which seem to shelve their most inner needs. When they continually try to accomplish the needs of others instead of their own this is where conflict begins, from outer issues in the environment to inner tensions.

Virgos must first be true to themselves and this is what the word 'virgin' means. Astraea does not have time for those that mess things up, when she can see that if the natural order had been followed, there would have been no mess up. She literally hates disorder, as most Virgos do.

The Syrian Goddess Atargatis was herself a harlot, who served men, and so enhanced and allowed them to be semi-divine - this is where men were initiated. The principle of Atargatis is to be true to ones inner-self. She represents the struggle that accompanies a Virgo's life.

The Moon and Uranus represents the more lusty side to a Virgo's nature, which creates a polarity and is difficult to master. They need to master this before becoming whole- and they may struggle between opposites, career and home, spirituality and materialism, their choice often creating a lonely path in one part of their lives. This is a sacrifice which can lead to transformation.

This sign also represents Persephone. She chooses to be a virgin, rather than a harlot. So Hades the god of the underworld takes this right out of her hands. She is abducted and taken to the underworld, to live for 6 months in the darkness and then 6 months with her mother.

Transformation has taken effect, because she was not allowed to simply remain a virgin but rather the necessity to become a woman. The mother and daughter relationship reflects the daughter's need to look back, and the mother to look forward through her daughter.

The sign of Virgo is a complex one where the individual wishes to remain intact inside - a virgin from within. It's important to them to do what is right. External conditions do not usually allow this and there tends to be an internal struggle to reunite the spirit with the physical.

Virgos bring into this world an innate feel for the truth, especially to oneself. They do not feel the need to react to another because they know deep inside what is right for them in a relationship. When external conditions occur which do not allow this inner morality to be activated, this can cause all sorts of troubles because it is against the natural flow. The struggle for Virgos is to find their uniqueness that is part of them, no one gave it or taught it to them. It is part of them. So the natural order of inner values can be applied solely on their own judgment.

VIRGO is the sixth sign of the zodiac and is ruled by the planet Mercury. VIRGOS constantly search for knowledge. VIRGOS are very detail conscious and do well in any line of work that requires exactness. VIRGOS are practical and efficient. The single greatest defect of VIRGO is that they are very critical of others… even judgmental of others. If they overcome this negative trait they can attain the highest of spiritual achievement in life. VIRGOS are intelligent, patient, and humble.

With a Mercury as the ruling planet, people born under this sign are quick thinking and observant. VIRGOS define pure modesty; they can't bear to be taken care of, they prefer to take care of others. Though VIRGOS are often quiet and thoughtful, they are rarely shy about expressing a personal point of view. Mercury in VIRGO means mental organization, and inclines its subjects toward constant activity. VIRGOS as an Earth sign uses Mercury to do meticulous, careful mind work, an analytical thinker.

VIRGOS Mutable style takes the alternate routes, unpredictable, versatile travelers. VIRGOS are known for either sneaking off on a bicycle, taking the bus, hitchhiking, or blowing their savings on a souped-up sports car. VIRGOS may spend part of their lives heading off on detours and then suddenly emerge as someone with a remarkable sense of direction. They can adjust easily to change once they find a way of fitting the new situation into their routine. Mercury rules the conscious, reasoning mind, which gives the VIRGO the ability to learn quickly, resourcefulness, brilliance, eloquence, dexterity, and great awareness.

VIRGOS personality is interior, to the world they may give an impression of calm authority, but they are totally aware of their own nervous, restless, controlled intensity, the desire to be up and doing, rearranging, improving. VIRGOS idea of taking it easy would seem like hard work to most people. VIRGOS are not a daydreamer; they're a day-doer. VIRGOS emotional life is a constant striving to bring order out of chaos. VIRGOS have an excellent memory, an analytical mind, and are known for crystal-clear thinking. VIRGOS superb logic cuts through muddled thinking like a laser beam. Until they have the facts before them, they are reluctant to make a decision.

VIRGOS prefer one-on-one encounters, in which they can offer the full benefit of their sharp insights and discerning opinions. That's also when people discover how well read, perceptive, charming and witty they are. At times VIRGOS finely tuned sensibilities can even make them unhappy, for it gives them a heightened awareness of the world's imperfections. However, VIRGOS resist criticism of their faults from others. It's rare, a VIRGO who takes criticism well or who can admit to being in the wrong.

The VIRGO lover may not be the most romantic, but they offer their whole heart. To VIRGO love is not dramatic, emotional, or sentimental. A VIRGO'S love is devotion and will include love of family, friends, and those less fortunate than he or she. There is no pretense involved in how they act or what they say. They are loyal; VIRGOS are big on fidelity. They value more than the superficial aspects of a love relationship and they generally attract people with a similar belief system. Marriage is a major commitment; they value their union as both a love relationship and a working partnership. A warm loving relationship brings out the best in anyone born under this sign because basically VIRGOS are kind, devoted and very loyal.

The VIRGO friend as a rule is shy and self-effacing. VIRGOS have difficulty making friends, until they feel absolutely comfortable with them. Yet when they do make the effort, these people are capable of achieving extraordinary things. In general VIRGO likes a friend who is tidy, clean, and intelligent with a broad range of interests. They prefer people who are not given to big shows of emotion and are attracted to those who offer a sense of peace and serenity. VIRGOS are likely to keep the same friends for years. Often, VIRGOS befriends someone with the showy personality they themselves are uncomfortable assuming.

Virgo is the only zodiacal sign represented by a female. It is sometimes thought of as a potentially creative girl, delicately lovely; sometimes as a somewhat older woman, intelligent but rather pedantic and spinsterish. The latter impression is sometimes confirmed by the Virgoan preciseness, refinement, fastidious love of cleanliness, hygiene and good order, conventionality and aristocratic attitude of reserve. They are usually observant, shrewd, critically inclined, judicious, patient, practical supporters of the status quo, and tend toward conservatism in all departments of life. On the surface they are emotionally cold, and sometimes this goes deeper, for their habit of suppressing their natural kindness may in the end cause it to atrophy, with the result that they shrink from committing themselves to friendship, make few relationships, and those they do make they are careful to keep superficial.

But the outward lack of feeling may, in some individuals born under this sign, conceal too much emotion, to which they are afraid of giving way because they do not trust others, nor do they have confidence in themselves and their judgments. This is because they are conscious of certain shortcomings in themselves of worldliness, of practicality, of sophistication and of outgoingness. So they bring the art of self concealment to a high pitch, hiding their apprehensiveness about themselves and their often considerable sympathy with other people under a mantle of matter-of-factness and undemonstrative, quiet reserve. They are still waters that run deep. Yet in their unassuming, outwardly cheerful and agreeable fashion, they can be sensible, discreet, well spoken, wise and witty, with a good understanding of other people's problems which they can tackle with a practicality not always evident in their own personal relationships.

Both sexes have considerable charm and dignity, which make some male Virgoans appear effeminate when they are not. In marriage they can be genuinely affectionate, making good spouses and parents, but their love making is a perfection of technique rather than the expression of desire, and they must be careful not to mate with a partner whose sex drive requires a passion they cannot match.

They are intellectually enquiring, methodical and logical, studious and teachable. They combine mental ingenuity with the ability to produce a clear analysis of the most complicated problems. They have an excellent eye for detail but they may be so meticulous that they neglect larger issues. Also, although they are realists, they may slow down projects by being too exact.
They are practical with their hands, good technicians and have genuine inventive talents, Thoroughness, hard work and conscientiousness are their hallmarks, and they are such perfectionists that, if things go wrong, they are easily discouraged. Because of their ability to see every angle of a many-sided question, they are unhappy with abstract theorizing. Appreciating the many different points of view as they do, they find philosophical concepts difficult, and they vacillate and have no confidence in any conclusions at which they arrive.

With these qualities, they are better as subordinates than leaders. Responsibility irks them and they often lack the breadth of strategic vision that a leader needs Virgoans are essentially tacticians, admirable in the attainment of limited objectives. Their self distrust is something they project on to other people and tends to make them exacting employers, though in the demands they make on those under them they temper this attitude with justice. They have potential abilities in the arts, sciences and languages. Language especially they use correctly, clearly, consciously and formally, as grammarians and etymologists rather than for literary interests, yet they are likely to have a good memory for apt quotations. Although they are well suited for careers in machine drawing, surveying and similar occupations, they are better fitted for a job in a library or office than a workshop.

Their minds are such that they need the stimulus of practical problems to be solved rather than the mere routine or working to set specifications that need no thought. They are careful with money and their interest in statistics makes them excellent bookkeepers and accountants. They also make good editors, physicists and analytical chemists. They may also find success as welfare workers, ministering to those less fortunate than themselves. They can be doctors, nurses, psychologists, teachers, confidential secretaries, technologists, inspectors, musicians, critics, public speakers and writers especially of reference works such as dictionaries and encyclopedias. Both sexes have a deep interest in history, a feature recognized by astrological authorities for at least two hundred years. If they go in for a business career their shrewdness and analytical ingenuity could tempt them into dishonesty, though they usually have enough moral sense to resist temptation. Female Virgoans may find a career in fashion, for they have a flair for dress, in which they can be trend setters. In any profession they choose the natives of this sign readily assimilate new ideas, but always with caution, conserving what they consider worth keeping from the past. They love country life but are unlikely to make good farmers, unless they can contrive to carry out their work without outraging their sense of hygiene and cleanliness.

Their faults, as is usual with all zodiacal types, are the extremes of their virtues. Fastidious reticence and modesty become old-maidishness and persnicketiness; balanced criticism becomes carping and nagging; and concern for detail becomes overspecialization. Virgoans are liable to indecision in wider issues and this can become chronic, turning molehills of minor difficulties into Himalayas of crisis. Their prudence can become guile and their carefulness, turned in on themselves, can produce worriers and hypochondriacs.

Possible Health Concerns for a Virgo

Virgo is said to govern the hands, abdomen, intestines, spleen and central nervous system. Illnesses to which its natives are prone include catarrh, cold, coughs, pleurisies, pneumonia and nervous instabilities. Their natures make them inclined to worry and this makes them vulnerable to stomach and bowel troubles, including colic and ulcers. Male Virgoans may have trouble with their sexual organs. Both sexes are strongly interested in drugs and esoteric cuisine and as their delicate stomachs require them to be careful about their diet, it is essential that they treat their fascination with exotic food with extreme care.

As with all sun signs, we all have unique traits to our personalities. When these traits are suppressed, or unrealized, problems will arise. However, with astrology we can examine the problem and assess the proper solution based on the sun sign characteristics. As a Virgo you may see things below that really strike home. Try the solution, you most likely will be amazed at the results. If you find yourself on the receiving end of the negatives below, it is because you are failing to express the positive.

Problem: Finding yourself frequently alone and unable to keep friends for more than a few weeks.
Solution: Try not to be argumentative over much and the constant criticism that Virgos give to their companions are not endearing qualities to have. Try to live and let live, they will love you for it.

Problem: People tend to avoid making close contact with you.
Solution: Being too preoccupied with health and making it a continual topic of conversation. Try to keep your tips and suggestions about health and health products to yourself unless asked for them.

Problem: Dissatisfied with the way your life is turning out; no excitement or change to speak of.
Solution: You may be restricting yourself by reducing your life to a set of theories and pigeon-holes. Try to express the positive by first asking yourself, Who or what are you serving; are you devoted or are you enslaved. Answer those questions and then start a new path that includes your true worth.

Problem: You may feel that your life and your climb to success is a steep hill that you may never be able to scale.
Solution: Try expressing the positive traits of your finely tuned analytical reasoning, employing the light touch with employees and coworkers, while expressing genuine concern for all; You will find those

Fussy and a worrier.
Overcritical and harsh.
Perfectionist and conservative.

The Virgo child is neat, clean and will work very studiously at school. Handwriting will be clear and legible and exercise books will be tidy. These children make good classroom monitors and teachers aids, as they simply like being kept busy. They are often rather shy and the playground can seem a threatening and intimidating place.

Virgo children may be seen as aloof and may not find it easy to mix with other children. Parents should do everything possible to help them develop self-confidence, which will be especially important at examination time.

The Virgo tendency to worry may otherwise be overwhelming, and mysterious illnesses will appear just when a crucial test is scheduled.

Virgo Parents will work long hours to build and maintain their family home in a way that satisfies their own highly critical standards. Even career women will make time for domestic work, but must learn not to spend so much time cleaning and polishing that they never enjoy the environment they so lovingly create.

A partner may well accuse the Virgo of being obsessive about cleaning and children may constantly feel inhibited for fear of creating a mess.

Virgos need to spend as much time as possible in the fresh air and walks in the countryside will be very beneficial. Children of nature, their spirits will be revived whenever they take the opportunity for long walks or cycle rides. Much attention should be paid to the diet and Virgo energy is much related to whole food diets and vegetarianism. Virgo rules the digestive system so these people will benefit greatly from a balanced diet. At some point in life most of these people become interested in health concerns and the healing arts in one form or another. Often self-help enthusiasts, these people also benefit considerably from relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation. This is especially good for those prone to worry, although it should be noted that too much introspection can exacerbate the problem.

Virgo Sun Sign in a Career

To work at their very best, Virgoans often need supervision, not only because it is difficult for them to see what should be done, but even if they can do so, they may be apprehensive about taking matters into their own hands. The natural modesty and lack of self-confidence issues will find them fearing themselves incompetent or wondering how other people will receive their efforts.

However, given an instruction they will follow it to the very best of their abilities. They make, excellent personal assistants because of their attention to detail and organizational skills. A positive manifestation of the Virgo critical nature would be in the field of theatre or literature critic. Also as writers they may have a sharp incisive style, which can be a great advantage if working in the media. Other aspects in the natal chart will support this trait. Many make excellent teachers, and others do well in the medical and caring professions, both in conventional or complementary medicine. Virgoans are not particularly ambitious, preferring support roles to that of the leader. If they do find themselves in a top job, they must watch their tendency to carp if they want to be popular as well as efficient.A high salary will be carefully managed, but Virgos need to be encouraged to enjoy spending money as well as investing it, or saving for a rainy day.

Virgo Mythology

This constellation is said to be the figure of a goddess, not an animal or a human. According to Greek legend, during the Golden Age (often thought to be under Titan rule instead of Olympian) the gods and goddesses lived on the Earth among men. Things began to change in the beginning of the Olympian era. Zeus was a harsh and strict ruler during these times, as many new rulers tend to be. He saw humans as rather lowly creatures who were far beneath immortals, and in fact should be treated as animals.
Prometheus, a Titan, became the protector of men and sided against Zeus. He even went so far as to steal fire from the Olympians and give it to humans. Outraged, Zeus chained Prometheus to the top of the Caucasus Mountains, intending to leave him there forever. However, Zeus was not finished punishing Prometheus -- or the human race -- yet.
He sent down Pandora, the first woman. Ancient Greeks believed that women were the source of all evil and discomfort. The symbolic representation of women's corruption of humanity is Pandora's Box, which was filled with all the demons which torture humanity, from Greed to Spite. After Pandora unleashed these demons, the remaining immortals on earth quickly departed for Olympus. The last one to leave was Astraea, the daughter of Zeus and Themis. She was also the sister of Pudicitia, or Modesty. Astraea was the goddess of virtue. Although she went to the heavens, she still hopes to return to earth, and she watches from the sky every night to see when earth will be ready for her to return.

Virgo the Virgin

Virgo the Virgin, an earth sign, is the sixth sign of the tropical zodiac. The Sun on his annual journey shines in Virgo between Aug 22 and Sep 21, though it can vary depending on the year. The Sun in astrology stands for our inner nature, the stamp of our true character.

A mutable (fluid and changeable) sign, Virgo governs critical analysis, intellectual subtlety and service. Virgo people are inclined to be practical and industrious, yet adaptable, with a remarkable eye for detail. Virgo is an intellectual and discriminating feminine sign ruled by the magical trickster Mercury, the messenger of the gods.

The emblem of Virgo, a virgin holding sheaves of wheat in her hands, symbolises wisdom, garnered in the fields of experience. Like the true virgin, most Virgos are shy and, like a virgin waiting to give herself to the perfect lover, Virgo is also idealistic.

Disappointment, however, can harden you into a cynic and a skeptic. Virgo consequently becomes quite critical with self as well as circumstances, due to the effect of such disappointments on a sensitive and discriminating nature.

The planet Mercury, governing our intellect and communicative faculties, rules Virgo, where tradition also places the house of its exaltation, so Virgins have a truly intellectual, critical and analytical approach to life. Communication is important and you love books, magazines, and writing.

A Critical Eye

A critical eye for detail, combined with your ceaseless pursuit of perfection, endows you with an irresistible urge to improve everything and everyone (whether they need it or not!). Service-oriented Virgo seeks to improve the environment, by pursuing careers in health-related fields, or in other structured areas such as teaching, labour relations, or counselling. Intensely personal situations can be somewhat inhibiting, but other circumstances can produce a very dynamic Virgo indeed. Hmmm.

Although you often have altruistic motives in helping others, you do have a teensy tendency to act the martyr when your offerings are ignored. It is not unheard of for you to use guilt as a weapon. Helping others to improve is one thing, my dears, but pushing them toward goals of perfection they cannot hope to accomplish is quite destructive, as well as impossible.

Health Conscious

Health-conscious Virgo makes an effort to stay physically fit and you don't mind repetitive exercise routines, if you can see achievable outcomes. You enjoy tennis, racquetball, swimming, sailing, fishing, and biking, even though athletically you are not overly competitive. It's just that you always seek to perfect whatever skills you may have, primarily for the sake of doing a thing well. Talented in various crafts, dressmaking and designing, you may also take a particular interest in such things as cartography, travel, and philately.

Virgo rules the the sinuses, respiratory system, and bowels. Colds, flu, allergies, problems with intestines and constipation are common Virgo complaints. You are also subject to black moods and despondency from time to time, which can adversely affect others in your vicinity.

Your colours are blue, yellow, grey, tan, navy, and lilac and your birthstone is the sapphire, a variety of corundum. This gem was considered by ancient societies to be a love charm. Though they come in a variety of colours and can even be transparent, the most valuable sapphires are blue. Blue is also the principal colour associated with Virgo. Flowers and plants for Virgo include the aster, chrysanthemum, ivy, and fern.

The Element of Earth is attached to the Signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, and it also rules the Second, Sixth and Tenth Houses. All the earthy metaphors are appropriate here: salt of the Earth, feet firmly planted on the ground and so forth. Those graced by an Earth Sign in their horoscope are practical, grounded and dependable. These folks aren't taking big risks, much preferring a sure thing.

Much like the Elements are considered the building blocks in nature, Earth Signs are the builders of the zodiac. To these Signs, creation is a tangible proposition. Whether it's building jobs or homes, or creating comfortable rooms within that home through the acquisition of possessions, Earth Signers are about all what is solid around us. Those influenced by this Element feel best once they have accumulated a goodly number of worldly possessions. The risk inherent in this, however, is that these individuals may become greedy and far too materialistic.

The Element of Earth also confers a sense of duty, responsibility and reliability to those in its sphere. These are the people you can count on to be there when you need them. Those influenced by Earth also tend toward caution and conservatism, in both desire and approach. That said, they are sensualists, certainly in that they appreciate a good meal and fine wine better than anyone else.

The logical mind of an Earth Signer is always appreciated. In keeping with this measured approach, these folks also display considerable recuperative powers. On the flip side of things, however, those supported by Earth may be so caught up in their objectives that they might overlook the feelings of others. It is a big picture, after all, but these folks may be more concerned with the finish line than the journey they are taking.

Earth Signs are dependable, practical and conservative, yet fairly materialistic. They have their feet on the ground but their eyes on the prize.

The Virgo Moon

The Virgo Moon is a truth-seeking Moon. This Moon mentally uses what it learns and is suspicious of face value information, possessing a deep desire to carefully sort through all available data. It is a cautious and serious Moon, being also reserved, methodical, analytical and critical. The Virgo Moon is a perfectionist Moon, possessing perseverance and good organizational skills. A sense of being in control is vital to this Moon and the ability to understand the feelings of others may be difficult. The Virgo Moon harbors a deep-rooted need for the acknowledment of personal abilities. In general, the personality of those whose Moon sign is in Virgo will lead a quiet and unpretentious life. These individuals are strong in intellect and have an excellent memory. Thus, a career of a cerebral nature is highly favored. Occupations dealing with health and healing are ideally suited for those governed by a Virgo Moon...a doctor or dietician, for example. The will of these individuals is usually good and they seldom find themselves in trouble. They are marvellous employees due to an honest and amiable nature. They also make for fair and just employers. Persons ruled by the Moon in Virgo tend to excel in the service of a company or corporation and enjoy social interactions. They are likley to have many friends and embark on many trips...this seems to be particularly true of the female governed by a Virgo Moon. These individuals prefer it when things are going well and may occasionally conceal or ignore problems (especially marital difficulties) in order to achieve such tranquility. However, people who fall under the jurisdication of a Virgo Moon do like to investigate the problems of others and their intellect is quite beneficial in this area. They are attracted to the study of both science and the occult, usually highly sensitive to those around them...which may be an indication of psychic abilities. Social, logical and clear-headed characters, those governed by the Moon in Virgo always appear to be busy organizing and arranging the next "big event." Although these individuals work well behind the scenes, there is frequently a strong social conscience which will question the status quo, refusing to accept things at face value. Communication is vital to those ruled by the Virgo Moon, particularly if it involves facts and information rather than "dreamy" philosophies. There is a strong personal code of conduct here, coupled with high standards, concerning friends and loved ones. Even though these individuals may not actually compose lists, they have the ability to think scenarious through into a logical order, rather than "firefighting" when trouble hits. Those governed by the Moon in Virgo will invariably plan ahead for all possible eventualities in a clear and most logical manner.

Virgo personality traits

Virgo personality - The Virgo Zodiac Sign is ruled by Mercury.

Your Sun Zodiac sign may not best describe your personality features, your characteristics and general qualities that you bring to life. For many people, their Ascendant or its planetary ruler is the more obvious characteristic, or sometimes the Moon sign. Your Sun sign, rather, says more about the direction you should be moving in, to make the contribution to humanity you were born to make, and thus achieve a degree of personal fulfilment.

Every sign rules a part of the body, Virgo the intestines. This provides a vital clue as to the function of Virgo within the whole of humanity. Think of what the intestines do. They take in energy in the form of food, and break it down into its constituent parts. Then they analyse the components and see how they can be made to be useful. Perhaps some will be combined with others, some will be stored for later use, and some will be eliminated as being useless. Virgo takes in substance and discriminates between what is useful and what isn't, and works with it so that it may be more useful still, and thus be of service to humanity. That is the key to it all - service.

What Is a Cusp?

A cusp is the point at which a new astrological sign begins. * Thus, the "cusp of Aries" means the point at which Aries begins. (The word comes from the Latin word cuspis, meaning "point.") When someone speaks of being "born on the cusp," he or she is referring to a birth time at or near the beginning or the end of an astrological sign. For example, if you were born on July 23, you were born on the cusp of Leo, the sign that begins on July 23. Indeed, depending on what year you were born, your birth time might even be in the last degree of Cancer. The Sun does not move into a new sign at exactly the same moment each year, and the dates for the different Sun signs, may vary by a day or so. Even if the Sun were moving into Leo on that day, what time of day did that happen? Were you born while the Sun was still in Cancer or after the Sun entered into Leo? If your birthday is near the beginning or end of a sign, check the Sun Tables on p ge. 349 or an astrological ephemeris** for the year of your birth, to be absolutely certain which sign you were born in. Astrologers differ about when a person is born on the cusp. Some astrologers claim it means only within the first two days or last two days of a sign. Others say it can be as much as within the first ten days or last ten days of a sign. The consensus, however, is that you were born on the cusp if your birthday is within the firstfive days or last five days of a sign. With cusp-born people there is always the question, "What sign am I really?" They feel that they straddle the border of two different countries. To some extent, that is true. If you were cusp-born, you are under the influence of both signs. However, one sign is always a stronger influence, and that sign is almost invariably the sign that the Sun was actually in (in other words, your Sun sign). The reason I say "almost" is that in rare cases a chart may be so heavily weighted with planets in a certain sign that the person more keenly feels the influence of that specific sign. For example, I have a friend whose birthday is December 22. On the day of his birth the Sun was leaving Sagittarius and entering Capricorn. At the moment of his birth the Sun was still in Sagittarius, so that technically speaking he is a Sagittarian. However, the Sun was only two hours away from being in Capricorn, and this person has the Moon, Mercury, and Saturn all in . Capricorn. He has always felt like a Capricorn, and has always behaved as a Capricorn. } This, obviously, is an unusual case. Generally, the Sun is the most powerful planetary influence Jin a chart. Even if you were born with the Sun on the very tip of the first or last degree of a sign, that sign is your Sun sign, and that is the sign you will most feel like. . However, the influence of the approaching sign or of the signjust ending is present, and you will iprobably sense that mixture in yourself. If you are cusp-born, you should recognize yourself in :one of the following descriptions.
The Cusps of Virgo
You are Virgo with Leo tendencies. You are kind, gracious, and reliable, and you also possess great flair and personal style. Your optimism, wit, and sense of fun magnetically draw people toward you. Projects you undertake are likely to be successful because of your eye for detail and quick intelligence. Often you end up handling the whole show because of your organizational abilities. Sometimes you are impatient with the irresponsibility of others. You shine in social settings. I n love, you tend to be effusive, warm, and loyal.
You are Virgo with Libra tendencies. You are an idea person, intellectual and perceptive. You have a gregarious nature and are most successful dealing with and through other people. Your mind is alert and lively, and you probably have a facile flair for conversation. Your particular gift is for using your social talents in your work. Your finely honed esthetic sense sets high standards. You may be a collector of beautiful objects or be drawn to creative pursuits. In love you are sincere and expressive, but need a lot of attention and devotion from a lover.
THE sign of Virgo rules the nervous system and the intestines. The intestines . assimilate food into the body. By the same token, Virgoans assimilate knowledge and turn it into practical use. They have delicate and finely tuned nervous systems, which makes them intuitive and discriminating. As with Cancer, nervous tension, anxiety, and emotional stress are Virgo's worst enemies. People of this sign can literally worry themselves sick. When things go wrong they have a tendency to turn the trouble into themselves-and the problem is instantly reflected in a physical ailment, usually intestinal. Virgoans have fussy digestive systems, and suffer from indigestion, gas pains, ulcers, liver upsets, colitis, and bowel problems. In addition, they are often troubled by skin eruptions, again due to nerves. Virgoans worry about their health; they tend to be hypochondriacs. Virgo's ruling planet Mercury has dominion over the brain and the nervous system. It also controls the links between the mind and the functions of the body. This intensifies Virgo's proclivity for turning mental tension and upsets into illness of the body.
Virgoans have to coddle their sensitive digestive systems. A proper diet is essential to good health and to keep up energy. In addition, food should not be highly seasoned, spicy, laden with sauces or gravies, or fried. Virgo's cell salt is potassium sulphate, which regulates oil in the body, carries oxygen to cells, and is essential to muscle contraction. This mineral keeps the skin pores unclogged and ventilated. Lack of potassium sulphate in the diet causes dandruff, hair loss, eczema, acne, and dry, flaky skin and hair. A deficiency also leads to extreme fatigue and constipation. Foods high- in this mineral that Virgoans need are green leafy vegetables (endive, chicory, romaine), whole wheat and whole grain breads, wheat germ oil, oats, almonds, cheese, oranges, bananas, lemons, lean beef and lamb. Healthy foods that are easy to digest are corn bread, yogurt, brown rice, eggs, and cottage cheese. Melons, apples, pears, and papaya are particularly good for Virgoans, and lemonjuice in the diet will ease skin eruptions and dandfuff. Honey should be used as a sweetener instead of sugar. Herb teas soothe upset stomachs. Virgoans love chocolate which unfortunately does not love them; it causes upsets of the skin and digestive system. They dp not tolerate drugs well, and medicine should be taken only under a doctor's supervision. Sunshine (in moderate amounts), mild exercise, and periods of relaxation are important for Virgo. It's hard not to worry when one is a worrier, but it helps to get away from it all and think about something else.
As a prelude to love, a playful tete-a-tete in the bath is just the thing to please Virgo. One reason: Virgo is very attracted to cleanliness. While in the bath, gently lave Virgo's stomach area with a sponge, soap, and warm water. For Virgoans, the entire stomach area is responsive to erotic touching, kissing, and stroking. They also enjoy the feeling of a spray of warm water over this area. A hand-held shower nozzle will do the trick nicely. In bed it is very easy to arouse Virgo sexually with this massage: I) Begin by slowly and gently stroking the abdomen, startingjust under the chest and going down to the top of the legs. Use your fingertips and cover the entire area. 2) Using a featherlight touch, stroke long lines from the navel to the genitals with your fingertip. Do the same thing usingjust fingernails and scarcely touching flesh. 3) Moving in a large circle, stroke the stomach area with your fingertips, describing smaller and smaller circles until you are at the rim of the navel. By this time Virgo is your slave.

What Is a Decanate?

Each astrological sign is divided into three parts, and each part is called a decanate or a decan (the terms are used interchangeably). The word comes from the Greek word dekanoi, meaning "ten days apart." The Greeks took their word from the Egyptians, who divided their year into 360* days. The Egyptian year had twelve months of 30 days each, and each month was further divided into three sections often days each. It was these ten-day sections the Greeks called dekanoi. Astrology still divides the zodiac into decanates. There are twelve signs in the zodiac, and each sign is divided into three decanates. You might picture each decanate as a room. You were born in a certain sign, for example Gemini, that consists of three rooms (decanates). Which room of Gemini were you born in? , , The zodiac is a 360-degree circle. Each decanate is ten degrees of that circle, or about ten days long, since the Sun moves through the zodiac at approximately the rate of one degree per day. (This is not exact because not all of our months contain 30 days.) The decanate of a sign does not change the basic characteristics of that sign, but it does refine and individualize the sign's general characteristics. For example, if you were born in the second decanate of Gemini, that does not change the fact that you are a Geminian. It does indicate that you have somewhat different and special characteristics from those Geminians born in the first decanate or the third decanate. Each decanate has a constellation in the heavens that represents it. These constellations have special mystical meanings, which' also add to the unique quality of your decanate. Finally, each decanate has a specific planetary ruler, sometimes called a subruler because it does not usurp the overall rulership of the sign. The subruler can only enhance, or add to, the distinct characteristics of that decanate. For example, the entire sign of Gemini is ruled by Mercury, but the second decanate of Gemini is subruled by Venus. The influence of Venus, the subruler, combines with the overall authority of Mercury to make the second decanate of Gemini unlike any other in the zodiac. In the following guide, I have outlined the subtle differences and special characteristics of your own unique decanate.

How to Attract Virgo

The rule to bear in mind is: Don't overpower. Underplay.Always try to be a good sport. If that drink you're invited for turns out to be at a health store and consists of carrot and cucumber juice, smile and gulp it. Virgos are finicky eaters and careful about their health. With them, the laws of nutrition rate just behind the Ten Commandments. In addition to the old standby of discussing work-connected topics, another good conversational subject is pets. Virgos like the smaller variety, especially the exotic kind. Quickly establish your cultural credentials. Virgos are drawn to people whose intelligence or learning is superior to their own. Don't probe too closely into their personal affairs. They guard their private life. A void noisy places or entertainment that is vulgar or offensive. Virgos pride themselves on their good taste. Don't let Virgo's worrying upset you. People born under this sign are natural worriers. Will they be on time for the show? Will they catch the plane? Will it rain or snow? Will the mail arrive? The list of their worries is endless. It's no use pointing out that most of the things they worry about never actually happen. They'll go right on worrying anyway; it's their way of coping with what might go wrong. Both male and female Virgos appreciate gifts that are useful and practical. They are also great hobbyists and are sure to have at least one special interest. Very few special occasions with Virgo will occur on the spur of the moment-at least not if Virgo can help it. There will be careful planning; all the moves will be figured out in advance. Virgo is marvelous at working behind the scenes to accomplish this. All you have to do is relax and enjoy it.

He gives an impression of being in firm control of his emotions but this is often a disguise. The Virgo man is sensitive, receptive, sensuous, and cautious all at the same time. He will never sweep you into the bedroom and take you by force. For one thing, he has too much respect for a woman. Because he does not find it easy to express his own deep feelings, he is often drawn to women who are effusive and vivacious. Yet he has a horror of getting embroiled in tempestuous scenes and angry tantrums. Emotionality upsets him, but because he is both attracted to it and disturbed by it, his love life never runs as smoothly as he'd like. This man's love nature can be described as private. At times there is even a surface quality of untouchableness about him, but this is an expression of his self containment. He has a keen sense of the dividing line between your psyche and his. The woman a Virgo man ultimately chooses has to measure up to very high standards. What he particularly doesn't like in a woman is any suggestion of coarseness, cheapness, or loose and careless conduct. Fastidious is a good word for what he does like. While he doesn't find it easy to express himself directly about his emotional needs, he has a way of making his dissatisfactions known. He can be demanding. He can find fault. The woman who finds this annoying has one important consolation: His demands and his fault-finding are proof he cares about her. Otherwise, he wouldn't bother. To some women he may seem lacking in romance, at least in the cinematic tradition of moon light, roses, and masked men riding into a cobbled courtyard. A woman will never look down from her balcony to find him strumming his guitar and singing romantic ballads. But in the cold light of dawn, in the real world we all inhabit, Virgo men have a lot more to offer than masked riders or lovesick troubadours. For one, a Virgo lover will still be there with the dawn's early light. He won't be riding off to sing ballads to someone else. Virgo dreams about changing his image. The woman who taps this secret Virgoan fantasy will reap the urprisingly rich and memorable rewards of his pent-up sensuality. It's all there under the surface, and it's the kind of sensuality that improves with time. As a lover, he is simple, direct, and for real. If you are looking for quality, not glitter, Virgo is your man.

SHE keeps her passions under a tight rein. but underneath emotions are surging. Outwardly she may appear calm, sometimes even remote and unreachable, for the quintessential Virgo has a serene, almost classic repose. Yet hers is one of the most conflicted signs. Basically, Virgo woman distrusts and is a little afraid of emotion. To her it represents the unknown, turbulent sea on which she may be set adrift without map or compass or rudder. Because ofthis a man may wonder if she isn't a bit cold. She isn't. Virgo's enormous capacity for loving will pour out, as from a rich treasury, once her emotions are unlocked. Virgo is a much misunderstood sign, and Virgo women particularly are often characterized as timid, evasive, reserved. This is also untrue. What Virgo women do have is selfpossession, a sense of passion that is controlled by discipline. Virgo is an earth sign, and like all the earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) she is an enigmatic combination of sensuality and conservatism. The Virgo woman likes men, but she is very careful about allowing herself to become too involved with them. She fears being trapped into a long term living arrangement with the wrong man. Before she marries or enters into a meaningful affair, she is careful to take note where the exit doors are. For a Virgo woman, falling in love can take a long time. She moves forward step by step, revealing the layers of her deep sensitivity, learning to trust. She is discriminating. Rather than go out with a man who doesn't interest her, she'll stay home and read a good book. This does not mean (as some have tried to imply) that she thinks lovemaking is a poor substitute for a good book. It's just that she doesn't mind waiting for Mr. Right to come along. When he does he will find behind her cool fa9ade a real woman waiting, warm and responsive. Meanwhile, her off-putting manner has served a useful purpose. It kept Mr. Wrong from intruding where he was not wanted. The real clue to understanding Virgo woman's amorous nature is to remember that she believes in true love. When she truly loves, her inhibitions are never in control of her passions. However, this is not a woman you can take for granted. You must strive hard to win her, please her, fulfill her. If you can, you will have a partner who pays you back in lifelong dividends of love, loyalty, and happiness.

The real drama of Virgo's personality is interior

To the world you may give an impression of calm authority, but you are aware of your own nervous, restless, controlled intensity, the desire to be up and doing, rearranging, improving. You can exhaust yourself more by simply sitting still than others do moving around. The planet Mercury, which rules both Virgo and Gemini, inclines its subjects toward constant activity. However, in Gemini the nervous energy is directed primarily toward stimulation and adventure, while in Virgo the ceaseless drive is to accomplish and perfect. It's impossible for Virgos to put off until tomorrow what might be done today, or to do later what might be done now. You are, in a word, organized. Your idea of taking it easy would seem like hard work to most people. You are not a daydreamer, you're a day-doer.Your emotional life is a constant striving to bring order out of chaos. Although you have a great capacity for love, love alone is not enough for you to be happy. You need more than a mate, home, children, friends. You must justify your life, conduct yourself as a good bookkeeper keeps a ledger-always ready to give a reckoning on whether there's a profit or a loss. Intelligence is the hallmark of your sign. The symbol is a young woman gathering wheat, and Virgo people harvest information, assimilate facts, and put what they learn to practical use. You have an excellent memory, an analytical mind, and are known for crystal-clear thinking. You also have a keen ability to probe into human motivations. People like to check their plans with you before putting them in action because you have microscopic vision when it comes to detecting a flaw. Your superb logic cuts through muddled thinking like a laser beam. Because you believe life should be approached rationally, you are without peer in solving knotty problems or tangled disputes. You are convinced that a reasoned presentation of the facts will carry the day. Until you have the facts before you, you are reluctant to make a decision. Your faith is not in Chinese fortune cookies or in weighing-machine cards, but in facts, and you distrust ideas that don't stand up to critical appraisal or people who make emotional judgments. The first thing you learned about money matters is that money does matter. Although you tend to be critical of your own ability in financial affairs, no one is better than you at staying within a budget. You aren't tempted into foolish ventures. Your bank balances usually jibe to the decimal point. You want the finest but rarely overpay, and you have a built-in resistance against self-indulgence. One of your major faults is that you don't see the forest for the trees. A preoccupation with neatness and precision sometimes limits your breadth of vision. That estimable faith in logic also confines your imagination and leaves you a little shy on inspiration, too dependent on established practices and methods. Your nature is to look back and analyze rather than push forward in a new direction. You must know the why and how of everything. Virgo is a mutable sign, however, so you can adjust easily to change once you find a way of fitting the new situation into your routine. You may run into difficulty because of a tendency to complicate everything. No problem is ever simple for Virgo. For every answer you've got a question, and making mountains out of molehills is one of your specialties. Your nature is shy and reserved; it's hard for you to relax, to make small talk or be gregarious with strangers. You prefer one-on-one encounters, in which you can offer the full benefit of your sharp insights and discerning opinions. That's also when people discover how well-read, perceptive, charming, and witty you are. A highly developed sense of discrimination may lead you to be hypercritical. You are unsatisfied with things as they are an.d continue to analyze situations and people in the hope of finding a way to make them better. At times your finely tuned sensibilities can even make you unhappy, for they give you a heightened awareness of the world's imperfections. However, you resist criticism of your faults from others. It's a rare Virgo who takes criticism well or who can admit to being in the wrong. You are health-conscious and try to make sure you get enough vitamins and go for regular checkups at the dentist. However, in this as in other areas, you can't help being a worrier. As a result you are prone to tension and nervous ailments. Hypochondria is common among Virgos. A warm loving relationship brings out the best in anyone born under this sign because basically you are kind, devoted and very loyal. When your affections are engaged you tirelessly try to serve loved ones. They will never have to worry about who's going to keep the checkbook balanced, or look after them when they are ill.

VIRGO a little history

VIRGO is the sixth sign of the zodiac and the second sign to have a human representation rather than an animal one. Virgo is often depicted as a young woman holding a sheaf of wheat, for the constellation of Virgo has always been associated with the harvest. Babylonians called the constellation The Furrow, and it was represented by a corn-goddess. The most prominent star in Virgo is named Spica, meaning Ear of Corn. The legend of Virgo is found in the Greek myth of Creation. The story goes that before men or animals lived on earth, a race of giants, called titans, ruled the world. Two titan brothers, Prometheus and Epimetheus, were given the task of creating human beings and animals. When this was done, Epimetheus set about giving various gifts to the animals-wings to one kind, claws to another, etc. He was so generous that when it came time to dispense something to mankind, he had nothing left to give, so he asked Prometheus for help. Prometheus went into heaven and came back with the gift of fire. This made man superior to other species, for with fire he could keep warm, make tools, and eventually develop commerce and science.Jupiter, chief of gods, became so angry at the gods's secret of fire being given to man that he bound Prometheus to a rock on Mount Caucasus where an eagle constantly tore at his liver, though never entirely consuming it. He also sent a curse to earth-brought by the first woman. Her name was Pandora, meaning "a gift of all the gods." Pandora brought with her a box, which she was told never to open. One day, seized with curiosity, she lifted the lid of the box. Out sprang terrible plagues to haunt mankind forever after: sickness and death for the body; anger, envy, and revenge for the mind. At the bottom of the box lay the one thing that had not escaped, hope.During the terrible times that followed, the gods deserted earth one by one and went to live in heaven. The very last to leave was Astraea, goddess of innocence and purity. After leaving the earth, Astraea was placed among the stars and became the constellation of Virgo. The legend is that one day the Golden Age will come again, and that Astraea (Virgo) will return to earth.

VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

DUALITY Feminine

Virgo is reserved, modest, practical, discriminating and industrious, analytical and painstaking seeking to know and understand. .

GLYPH (WRITTEN SYMBOL) The symbol represents a Virgin, for it is a pictograph of the human reproductive organs closed and untouched. In symbolic terms, the glyph is a straight line connected to two curved lines, one of which is crossed. This represents wisdom tied to feeling and emotion, and crossed by practicality.

Virgo is the sign of work and self-improvement. Its natives are perfectionists who dissect facts in order to find the truth and obtain all the information available. Pisces, Virgo's opposite sign, is the sign of illusion and self-deception. Pisceans are prone to dreaminess, vagueness, self-delusion, and escapism.

Virgo & Sagittarius

When Virgo and Sagittarius join together in a love match, the result is a well-rounded couple. Sagittarius is an explorer who loves to socialize, while Virgo prefers to analyze Sag's discoveries. Both enjoy talking about it with one another. Virgo may demand perfection too soon for Sagittarius's taste, but over time Sagittarius will appreciate a steady and reliable lover whose head isn't always in the clouds.

Virgo and Sagittarius have unique approaches to life; Virgo is more practical and less distracted, while Sagittarius is the energetic explorer. It can be hard for Sagittarius to go along with the pragmatic realism of Virgo. Virgo may have a hard time accepting the Sagittarian energy. Virgo can offer Sagittarius a secure base and keep them on track with their dreams and ambitions. Sagittarius can add variety and new excitement to Virgo's day.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury and Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. Mercury is about communication, and from Virgo's perspective, analyzing. Jupiter is philosophy, higher learning and travel. These two are about interpersonal communication and can sustain one another. Virgo and Sagittarius can amuse each other by discussing a film or a book in great depth, Virgo focusing on the particulars and Sagittarius commenting on the overall picture.

Virgo is an Earth Sign and Sagittarius is a Fire Sign. Sagittarius wants freedom, while Virgo needs financial strength and domestic stability. Sagittarius is motivated by pure feeling, while Virgo is more of a thinker. As long as they reassure each other that their love for one another is solid and real, their discords can usually be resolved.

Virgo and Sagittarius are both Mutable Signs. They can be spread themselves out over many different tasks, if necessary. It's easy for these two to become interested in the things that the other does. Each has no trouble granting the other the freedom to enjoy things external to the relationship. They have a wonderful, complimentary style of interaction and have no trouble working together.

What's the best aspect of the Virgo-Sagittarius relationship? It's the security they can give one another once they discover their similar lifestyles. They make a wonderful couple once they can teach one another to look at the world through new eyes. As long as they communicate and appreciate what they can learn, theirs will be a stable and happy relationship.

Virgo & Scorpio

When Virgo and Scorpio join together in a love match, these Signs that are two apart in the Zodiac are brought together. Their placement gives the relationship an intense karmic bond. The Virgo-Scorpio couple is loyal and deep, with very strong ties. Usually, this couple will stay away from crowds; they aren't too inclined to go to parties or dances, but alone they can form a very fulfilling union.
Virgo and Scorpio enjoy working together toward acquisition: Virgo wants order and Scorpio wants power. Both of these Signs are about resources, including inheritances and property. This couple is very service-oriented and known to be dependable. They like to lend a hand to a friend or to the community. Additionally, Virgo can be withdrawn -- while Scorpio is more opaque and outgoing. Because of disparity, both Signs can learn from one another if they can agree to meet halfway.
Virgo is ruled by Mercury and Scorpio is ruled by Mars and Pluto. This combination is very heated, thanks to Pluto's influence. The two Signs unite to form the basic foundation of human relationships -- Mercury's communication and Mars's passion. Mercury and Mars go well together; Mercury is about the conscious mind, and Mars is about the passion of romance. Scorpio is rambunctious and intense, and Virgo is attracted to this energy. In turn, Scorpio needs the loyalty and practicality inherent in Virgo.
Virgo is an Earth Sign and Scorpio is a Water Sign. Scorpio is a very deep Sign; it's an ocean, and too much turbulence will cause a violent storm. Scorpio emotionally hides in their shell, but when the pressure becomes too intense, suddenly explodes. Their mutual need for emotional security fosters extreme loyalty to one another. But while Virgo is simplistic, with everything laid bare on the surface, Scorpio is more concerned with the undercurrents of life. Scorpio can show Virgo life beyond the literal surface, and Virgo is attentive enough to pick up on this hidden conversation. Virgo can teach Scorpio the facts and that they are sometimes quite literal and can be dismissed at face value. Scorpio appreciates Virgo's practicality and Virgo enjoys Scorpio's devotion -- it proves they are loved and appreciated.
Virgo is a Mutable Sign and Scorpio is a Fixed Sign. Once they have a common goal, nothing can get in the way of their love. When an argument arises, Virgo is adaptable enough to take a step backward and not allow a fight to take place. Scorpio often gets its way due to a stubborn streak. It's important for these partners to discuss what is truly important to them so they can have equal roles. This is not a relationship riddled with conflict. Both partners would rather work together than fight.
What's the best aspect of the Virgo-Scorpio relationship? It's their ability to carry out goals when they put their minds to the task. When Scorpio realizes that Virgo is an asset and a leveling force in their life, this relationship will grow. Mutual determination and organization makes theirs a harmonious relationship.

Virgo & Libra

When Virgo and Libra join together in a love match, it can be like puting two puzzle pieces together. Each locks into the other and sits comfortably in place. Both Signs seek security in partnership, and they share a love of beauty and culture. They can work together efficiently and smoothly because they desire similar rewards. The Virgo-Libra relationship may trickle along in the beginning, but it will rev up once both partners grow to respect one another.
Virgo and Libra both appreciate superficial pleasures, and they often enjoy collecting bone china, art or photographs. They also enjoy the theater and all forms of art. Practicality and pleasure are important to both Signs, and they compliment one another in many ways. Virgo appreciates Libra's charm and diplomacy, and Libra can even things out when Virgo doesn't get their way. Libra appreciates the Virgo love of order and the tangible rewards that come with it. Additionally, Libra and Virgo are willing and able to see the different sides of an argument, and together they make decisions only after examining the facts.
The Planet Mercury rules Virgo and Libra is ruled by the Planet Venus. Virgo is an excellent communicator, analyst and thinker. These partners share a love of good, honest conversation and exquisite taste. Libra, especially, is about balance, and both partners share pleasing personalities and a strong desire for balance. Together, they bring culture and beauty to the world around them. Also due to Venus's influence, Libra can be lazy, and both partners may be seen as snobs: Virgo with their high expectations and Libra guilty of an intellectual superiority complex.
Virgo is an Earth Sign and Libra is an Air Sign. Libra goes about theorizing on many different subjects, while Virgo is more pragmatic. Virgo asks, ""how will this help me achieve my goals in life?"" while Libra simply focuses on whatever occurs to them, regardless of how useful it is. Sometimes each partner may find it difficult to understand where the other is coming from. Conflicts can arise in this relationship if Virgo seems too particular or Libra seems manipulative. Both partners need to realize that they view the world through different filters.
Virgo is a Mutable Sign and Libra is a Cardinal Sign. In this relationship, Libra will steer their direction. Virgo is complacent and easy-going, and Libra can be a gentle, guiding force without crossing the line into domination. Libra's indecision may irritate Virgo, but Libra is skilled at seeing all sides of a problem, and is often able to sympathize with Virgo's decisions. If Libra can be the initiator in the relationship, Virgo is adaptable enough to keep their projects going.
What's the best aspect of the Virgo-Libra relationship? It's their shared love of structure and art. Aesthetics are important to both partners, and they share a love of the finer things in life. Their similar tastes and loves make theirs a relationship of great balance.

Virgo & Virgo

When two Virgos join together in a love match, they are likely to structure their lives in beautiful conjunction. The merging of two incredibly practical, industrious sorts such as these creates an incredibly devoted and doting couple although public displays of affection will be rare. Though their shared perfectionism and skepticism could lead to conflict, the level-headed Virgo duo will quickly resolve any disputes and move on to more pleasant times.
The Virgo-Virgo relationship runs like a well-oiled machine, particularly for couples who live together or have children. There is never any confusion over the delegation of responsibility, and both partners feel quite comfortable with this arrangement. Making lists, balancing accounts and keeping the house and affairs in order are second nature to both partners. They share a discriminating palette and exquisite taste. As long as they aren't too harsh with one another, their relationship will be fulfilling in every way.
Virgo is ruled by the Planet Mercury. This Planet represents communication, and indeed this is Virgo's shtick. As a romantic couple, both are tuned in to one another's frequencies. Virgo is often able to read the nuances of words and gestures and take in an analytical meaning. One of the strongest points of the relationship is open and honest communication. Also, the reasoning and logical abilities of two Virgos together can quite possibly solve all the world's problems. They are a versatile and brilliant team.
Virgo is an Earth Sign, thus indicating a practical nature. Also, they are a couple who likes to be surrounded by and own elegant things, and who won't settle for second best. It is worth it to hold out for something perfect, rather than to allow for anything less. Virgo exercises caution before moving forward, and they are the first to determine the best action for everyone to -- even if it involves sacrifice. Pickiness makes the Virgo-Virgo team a wonderful romantic couple.
Virgo is a Mutable Sign. They are easily adaptable to any situation or any social setting. There is rarely conflict between them, but when it does arise it is quickly brushed over. Neither is too pushy or domineering, and they share an equal enthusiasm for one another's pursuits. Virgo always follows through, and two of them together doubles this energy and makes a very happy couple.
What's the best aspect of the Virgo-Virgo relationship? It's their levelheaded and structured approach to life, work, fun and commitment. They're incredibly compatible, and this obvious to them and to their friends. Together, they make a wonderful pair for pleasing one another and working on the perfect relationship

Virgo & Leo

When Virgo and Leo join together in a love match, they may initially overlook common interests and feel they have nothing to gain from one another. This is a relationship that evolves over time, each partner gradually understanding and appreciating the other. Leo is extroverted, dominant, and charismatic, and often has a short fuse. Virgo is studious and withdrawn, possessed of more versatility than Leo. Although there are differences, they make a wonderful love match when each partner warms up to the other's unfamiliar style.
Early in the relationship, Leo and Virgo may see nothing but faults in one another. Leo may seem tyrannical, and Virgo may seem too judgmental. But when they stop looking solely at one another's flaws and begin to discover one another's positive attributes, they'll discover an attraction. Leo shows Virgo good times and fun, and introduces the spontaneity that is often missing in Virgo's life. Virgo teaches Leo patience and focuses their intellectual energy. Leo may feel Virgo is watching with too keen of an eye, but will inspire their partner to ease up. Virgo may consider Leo selfish and foreboding, but can teach them to be sensitive to others' needs.
Leo is ruled by The Sun and Virgo is ruled by the Planet Mercury. The Sun emanates light and heat and waits for others to gather around and accept the gifts of their presence. Virgo reaches out to others and works out all the details before committing to a determined goal. Both Signs need to take the time to see the value of the other's approach; Leo can teach Virgo to be less critical and more spontaneous while the Lion gains stability from Virgo's even keel.
Leo is a Fire Sign, and Virgo is an Earth Sign. Leo starts in on new projects without stopping to consider their motivation, while Virgo takes a more practical approach. Virgo is concerned with the outcome of their efforts while Leo simply pursues what they want with no mind for the consequences.
Leo is a Fixed Sign, and Virgo is a Mutable Sign. Virgo likes to spend time working hard and spreading themselves over many different areas. Leo, on the other hand, enjoys taking charge or managing a project and assigns roles to the other participants. The absence of conflict over who's who in the relationship helps Leo and Virgo avoid unpleasant character evaluations.
What is the best aspect of the Leo-Virgo relationship? It's their effectiveness as a couple. Metaphorically and literally, Leo commands attention and respect by showing people what they are made of socially, and following through on new ideas motivated only by fun and excitement. Virgo works hard behind the scenes, scheduling appointments and following up on details Leo has lost interest in. Their personalities, opposite in so many ways, makes theirs a highly complementary love match

Virgo & Gemini

When Gemini and Virgo come together in a love affair, it's crucial to the survival of the relationship that they take time to learn about one another's approach to life and love -- and remember that both partners' attitudes are worth understanding! Gemini is symbolized by the Twins; they can see both sides of a story, they tend to vacillate between two courses of action and sometimes they can seem as if they have a split personality! This relationship is greatly strengthened when steady Virgo provides one Twin with a steady emotional anchor while allowing the other Twin to flit about at will. Virgo may be a bit too serious and demanding for Gemini, especially if this occurs early in the relationship before Gemini has fully committed. If Virgo just gives it time, things will smooth out.
Virgo and Gemini's approaches to life are seemingly so different that mutual acceptance can be hard to come by -- especially since Virgo tends to be so critical and exacting. Gemini strains against Virgo's ultra-practical stance in the world, and Virgo tires quickly of Gemini's flighty ways. They do have much to teach one another, however. Virgo can help Gemini to be more involved in life and to see the depth of ideas rather than simply the surface. Gemini can help bring fun and excitement into Virgo's life.
Both Signs are ruled by the Planet Mercury (Communication). Gemini represents the masculine aspect of Mercury, Virgo the feminine (Mercury itself is androgynous). Virgo wants a dependable partner and therefore uses the penchant for clear communication toward forming the perfect relationship. Gemini is more intellectually focused than Virgo but does have a gift in relating to others.
Virgo is an Earth Sign and Gemini is an Air Sign. Virgo is practical, direct and precise. Virgo asks, ""How will this help me achieve my goals in life?"" while Gemini, who moves through life relying on their mind, doesn't waste time focusing on where they're headed, but rather simply goes where their mind leads. Virgo's fussy, critical nature and Gemini's aloof detachment and capriciousness can cause trouble for both partners. Virgo must understand that Gemini's flirtatious nature does not affect their feelings regarding the relationship, and Gemini must help to foster that understanding through words and deeds.
Virgo and Gemini are both Mutable Signs. Both are quite flexible; both are able to adapt to change at a moment's notice. Both can be somewhat wishy-washy, however, Gemini due to their incessant intellectual ruminations and Virgo due to their penchant for analysis rather than action.

What's the best aspect of the Gemini-Virgo relationship? The security they can give each other -- once Virgo allows Gemini to commit willingly to the relationship. As long as they communicate with each other and use their Mercury powers effectively, theirs will be a gratifying relationship.

Virgo & Taurus

What's the best aspect of the Virgo-Scorpio relationship? It's their ability to carry out goals when they put their minds to the task. When Scorpio realizes that Virgo is an asset and a leveling force in their life, this relationship will grow. Mutual determination and organization makes theirs a harmonious relationship.
Due to Virgo's naturally cautious nature, this relationship can take awhile to develop, but once it's established that both partners are in it for the long haul, it's like a runaway locomotive, running on its own power and difficult to stop. These two Signs have much in common: They highly value common sense and practicality; they're both materialistic but work hard for the creature comforts they so enjoy. Taurus is more sensual and indulgent than Virgo is; Virgo tends to be the inhibitive force in the relationship, tending not to get involved in the chaos of life in favor of analyzing all available options. Virgo's analysis leads to criticism, which Taurus can tend to take too seriously. Conversely, Taurus's stubborn nature can get on Virgo's nerves, causing Virgo to criticize even more! This pair must take care not to take one another too seriously. The good thing is, they're similar enough that they can learn to be patient with one another, especially Virgo, who loves to indulge Taurus's penchant for fine treatment and good food.
Taurus is ruled by Venus (Love and Money) and Virgo is ruled by Mercury (Communication). Both of these Planets are close to the Sun, so they're closely related though they seem very different. Venus is physical; it's about romance and sensuality, both of which are important to Taurus. Mercury is about communication and it's androgynous -- Virgo will take on the form that it chooses. Virgo is very good at understanding other people and can easily learn to be the romantic and sensual partner that Taurus loves. Both partners are so devoted and romantic, their arguments surely won't focus on those issues.
Taurus and Virgo are both Earth Signs. Earth Signs are steady and practical, concerned with possessions. Taurus and Virgo together love to surround themselves with beautiful things -- an opulent home, gorgeous artwork, classy cars. Their love of luxury and their desire to be financially secure ensure that this couple will work hard who never overspend.
Taurus is a Fixed Sign and Virgo is a Mutable Sign. Taurus is stubborn and tends to make up their mind for good; more flexible Virgo can help teach Taurus the value in bending the mind a bit -- when it's practical, of course.
What's the best aspect of the Taurus-Virgo relationship? Their dedication to working toward the same goals. Both partners enjoy luxury and nice things, and Virgo likes helping Taurus achieve their goals. Their common interests and desires make theirs a highly compatible relationship.

Virgo & Aries

When Aries and Virgo come together in a love match, they may think at first that they have nothing in common and nothing to learn from one another. This relationship takes time to develop as each partner must learn to understand where the other is coming from. Aries and Virgo can seem like total opposites: While Aries is brash, dominant and aggressive, always jumping into new things and almost always impatient, Virgo is detail-oriented and quiet, even shy, and works patiently toward long-term goals. Aries's energy is fiery and impetuous while Virgo's is much slower and more grounded. It's these very differences, however, that can teach Aries and Virgo so much, once they just look beneath one another's surfaces to see what lies beneath.
Early in the relationship, Aries and Virgo may see nothing but one another's faults. Virgo thinks Aries is way too brash, and Aries thinks Virgo is extremely fussy. But if they focus on one another's strengths instead, they'll discover a great deal. Aries teaches Virgo about fun and excitement, about the spontaneity that is often missing in Virgo's life. Virgo teaches Aries patience and attention to detail, the knowledge that the little things -- and moments -- are important too. Aries can teach their Virgo lover to take things less seriously. Virgo can teach Aries to be polite and value hard work.
Aries is ruled by the Planet Mars and Virgo is ruled by the Planet Mercury. Aries wants to rush out and fight without wasting time preplanning or strategizing. Conversely, Virgo wants to analyze everything and work out all the details before acting. These are such opposite approaches that strife can result. Both Signs must make a conscious effort to learn from one another's method rather than letting their partner's natural rhythm bother to the point of distraction.
Aries is a Fire Sign and Virgo is an Earth Sign. Where Aries is all fiery impetuosity, Virgo is grounded practicality. Virgo weighs all the options before devoting any serious effort, while Aries simply sees what they want and dives in! This is true both in career and in personal relationships -- which can be something of a stumbling block. If Aries has decided it's Virgo they want, they might be frustrated for some time to come, waiting for Virgo to make up their mind about whether the relationship is a good idea.
Aries is a Cardinal Sign and Virgo is a Mutable Sign. Virgo doesn't need to be the leader or the boss; they're glad to follow another's suggestion once they decide it's a viable one. Aries, on the other hand, wants to make those suggestions -- every time. This is a beneficial dynamic if these two Signs are working as a team toward a common goal.
What's the best aspect of the Aries-Virgo relationship? Their great effectiveness as a team -- business or personal. Their personalities, opposite in so many ways, make for a highly complementary relationship.

Virgo & Cancer

When Cancer and Virgo make a love match, a strong, down-to-earth relationship with staying power is the happy result. This is a relationship with great potential to get better and better over the passing years. Both Cancer and Virgo are goal-oriented and disciplined. They are sincere and devoted to one another and share a strong sense of purpose. No lightweight love here: These two were not really built for flings! Cancer and Virgo deeply admire one another: Virgo respects Cancer's quiet strength and dedication while Cancer appreciates Virgo's keen adaptability and intelligence.
These lovers may get off to a slow start, but over time, bonds will only grow stronger. The Cancer-Virgo love match prides itself on common sense and strong principles over fluff and inconsequential or fleeting connections. They enjoy the material comforts of life, but they will only feel good about their bounty if it has come as a result of honest hard work. There could be tiffs if Virgo becomes too critical for Cancer's easily bruised feelings; Cancer needs to understand that it's just Virgo's nature to point out what they observe, that it's not a personal attack. A Virgo may bristle at their Cancer mate's stubborn streak, but it's a trait that a patient and understanding love partner like Virgo could come to appreciate. Also, Virgo's urge to serve suits Cancer's affectionate, nurturing nature well.
The Moon (Emotion) rules Cancer, and Mercury (Communication) rules Virgo. Though they're very different planets, they're both near the Sun and therefore always in one another's neighborhoods. The Moon is a mothering influence; it's about cultivation and fostering growth, which are both central concerns for Cancer. Mercury is all about communication, and it's an androgynous energy -- Virgo will adapt and take on the form that it chooses, the guise that best serves a situation. Virgo takes an intellectual approach to life (especially compared to the emotional Cancer), but still manages to be perceptive and intuitive enough to figure others out if they choose. Good thing for the Crab, then, that a Virgo mate can get a feel for devotion and domestic fulfillment if that's what their Cancer lover desires. These two won't argue about fulfilling one another's needs. They'll work at it and relish the rewards of their conscientiousness.
Cancer is a Water Sign, and Virgo is an Earth Sign. Earth Signs, true to their name, are down-to-earth, but they can also be materialistic and preoccupied with acquisition. The Cancer-Virgo love partners like to surround themselves with comfortable, well-crafted things. Water Signs rely on feeling and intuition, making Cancer the emotive force behind this relationship, in a subtle Cancer way, of course. Along with their desire for prosperity, their love of a fancy home life ensures that this couple will work hard toward this shared goal. Also, they're practical pair, and losing control is never really an issue.
Cancer is a Cardinal Sign, and Virgo is a Mutable Sign. While Cancer gets things going, Virgo thrives on a changing routine of responsibilities and challenges. Because they're so ubiquitous, Virgo will find a place in Cancer's plans if they really want to. Virgo will keep in mind Cancer's plans, and will eventually bring results even if Cancer has moved on.
What's the best aspect of Cancer-Virgo relationship? Their dedication to working toward the same goals. Both partners in this love match enjoy a stable home life and nice things, and Virgo truly enjoys helping Cancer along the way to achieving their goals. Their shared goals and desires make theirs a highly compatible love match.
